Head Start is funded through a federal grant. Applicants must provide verification of age and income for the past twelve months or previous calendar year, whichever more accurately reflects the family's current circumstances. Priority is given based on income and additional selection criteria.

Head Start offers several program options including preschool in a classroom setting either 3 1/2 hours a day, four days a week OR 6 hours a day to help meet the needs of working parents. Head Start also offers a Home-Based program, where a Family Educator provides weekly 1 1/2 hr visits to prenatal moms and families with children birth to three years of age. EHS families attend a socialization group twice a month. Positive, nurturing parent-child interactions are the focus of all services and activities.
